My Online Education Experience

My day-to-day as an online student and the skills I learned to adapt to my new schooling environment.

I have learned many skills during the past year, going to online school; such as patience and responsibility. During online school, I’ve learned that when it comes to homework, I have to write it down, to later come back to and remember what it is that I needed to get done.

Before COVID happened, I did not do that, because teachers would always remind us of what homework we had at the end of class. It feels weird to go to classes and see no one there but the gray avatars on my computer screen. I can see the teacher of course, but I’m a people person, so it makes me sad not seeing the faces of my classmates. I know that people want to keep their cameras off for privacy reasons, so I’m certainly not complaining.

Even though I love to talk, I tend to be shy when talking to people online. I think it’s because nobody else talks, making me feel a little bit reserved as well. But there are some pluses to being an online student. I love that I get to eat snacks whenever I want! I also get to stay in my pajamas all the time! I get to be comfortable all day every day. Now that I have talked about my day-to-day as an online student, let’s talk about how I get to know my teachers better through this online environment.

How I Connect with Teachers Through Online School

I have a deep respect for my teachers. It must be hard to deal with teaching kids in school and online at the same time! In my opinion, they’re doing a great job! To get to know them better, I use my microphone to talk to them instead of using the chat box. By doing that, I can see that it makes their day, thus making me happy.

For example in English class, my teacher told us what plays she likes and what some of her favorite books to read are. I realized that some of the books that she likes, I like too! It was a conversation started for my teacher and me to talk about. It gave me more courage to talk to my teacher and build a connection with her.

In conclusion, my overall online experience has been going well thus far.
