How To Prepare for the Upcoming School Year

It is almost that time of year. Yes, I’m talking about the start of a new school season for most of us. Even though we are still in the middle of our summer vacation, it is never too late to start planning for the new school year!

Growing up, I’m always excited for this time of year for many reasons, which I will list in a bit. However, starting a new school year, especially after a year that was mostly all virtual, is probably going to be a bit difficult to adjust to. Adjusting to our old ways would take time, and it’s best to start now more than ever.

Go over your course selections -

Before the school year starts, it’s best to go over material for the courses you are taking for the upcoming year. Yes, you can wait until the classes start to worry about that. However, going over it soon will not only give you a head start but will help you grasp the material later on. Whenever I get the schedule of my courses, I would spend around an hour a day trying to go over the material and learning the basics. You may ask your teacher for more information about the course or use our best friend, the internet, for help! Websites like Khan Academy or CK12 are extremely useful when it comes to lessons on various subjects. Try to use the resources that are around you to adjust to these new classes.

Fix up your sleep schedule!-

Since it’s summer vacation, it wouldn’t matter when you’ll fall asleep and wake up. It’s a break after all! It’s mostly just time to spend time with friends, family, or yourself. A time to rest whenever you want. However, there is a point where you have to stop going to bed at three in the morning every night and wake up early. That’s right: you need to fix that sleep schedule. It’s best to start a month or less before the school year starts. Instead of going to bed at eleven, try to do baby steps. For example, if you’re so used to falling asleep at four in the morning and waking up at two in the afternoon, push that timeframe. Going to bed at two in the morning would be an improvement. Afterward, as the days or weeks go by, continue to push back that timeframe. Then, you’ll begin to get used to a healthy sleep schedule. This tip will help a lot before starting the new school year.

Focus on yourself! -

There is nothing more important than focusing on yourself. For most of us, the start of a new school year could be stressful, especially since it seems like we will not be facing our computer screens for six hours a day. Trying to take good care of yourself is extremely important. Since school could bring so much stress, it is best to create a schedule. Schedules are where you could fit in school time, studying/homework time, your hobbies, and time that is just for yourself. Be sure to include three meals a day into that schedule. When it comes to doing homework and studying, it is best to be on track. However, do not overwork yourself. Taking small breaks will not burn you out unlike working for so many hours straight on. Another critical factor is to treat yourself with respect. Do not focus too much on other people trying to be better than you, whether it is looks, academics, talents, etc. All that matters is you being the best version of yourself. Learning to love yourself is incredibly important. Not only in a school environment but everywhere. Complimenting yourself through the mirror every morning should be a routine that people should add on. It is not wrong to give yourself a bit of love after all.

These are my top three tips on what you should do before the new school year starts. These tips aren’t only useful for school, but they are helpful for anywhere. It’s best to follow these three steps to try and have a very successful year for you!
